Provides direct patient care in Postpartum, Nursery, or Labor and Delivery setting.  Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care.  Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.Â
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on infants, adolescents, and adults and reassessments per policy  Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA guidelines.  Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.  Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.  Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.  Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.  Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, spiritual needs of patient and family.  Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Postpartum, L&D, and/or Newborn Nursery.  Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, coworkers and physicians.  Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Â
Qualifications
Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Nursing required Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
Required Licenses Must have a current Mississippi Registered Nurse license or a current Compact State Registered Nurse license
Required Skills Current updated American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification are required within 90 days of hire or transfer. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required in L&D and Nursery. Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN) certification is preferred for L & D. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred for post-partum RNs.
