Description

Two premier health systems in the state of Alabama, UAB Medicine and Infirmary Health, have come together to improve cancer outcomes for our state by developing a jointly operated cancer service line for South Alabama under the leadership of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, the only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in Alabama.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches, and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social, and economic benefit of Birmingham, the state, and beyond. UAB is internationally renowned for its intensely collaborative culture that has — for more than five decades — produced breakthroughs in education, health care, research, and service. UAB was ranked #1 in the United States, and in the top 10 worldwide, in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2018 Young University Rankings. As part of the UAB Health System, UAB Medicine is one of the nation's largest academic medical centers with more than 18,000 employees. UAB Medicine's flagship facility is the 1,207-bed UAB Hospital, one of the nation’s largest public hospitals. It includes the UAB Women & Infants Center, Spain Rehabilitation Center, the Center for Psychiatric Medicine, and the freestanding UAB Hospital-Highlands. In addition to UAB Hospital, UAB Medicine also includes The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital, UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, as well as several primary and specialty care clinics and a dozen affiliate health systems within Alabama.

Infirmary Health has been delivering high-quality healthcare for over 110 years and is the largest integrated, not-for-profit, non-governmental healthcare system in Alabama and along the Central Gulf Coast. The system sees 1.5 million patient visits each year and has nearly 60 percent of the healthcare market share in the two primary counties it serves. With four hospitals, an employed multi-specialty group that includes 230 physicians and over 30 outpatient facilities, Infirmary Health is a leading healthcare provider in Alabama.

This position is located in Mobile, AL at Infirmary Cancer Care, an affiliate of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Currently, the program comprises five Medical Oncologists, four Radiation Oncologists, two Breast Surgeons, one Colorectal Surgeon, and one Hepatobiliary Surgical Oncologist who provide care at two multi-disciplinary cancer centers and three satellite offices.

This is a non-tenure earning, full clinical position within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine with employment through University of Alabama Health System Foundation. The appointed candidates will hold membership to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. This will complement their clinical responsibilities with an enriching academic experience of an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Membership in the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, further enriches the role, facilitating access to leading-edge research, clinical trials, and 18 multi-disciplinary tumor boards, disease specific working groups as well as opportunities for Clinical/ Translational Research. Candidates will be offered competitive compensation based on MGMA benchmarks.

Mobile is a historic, mid-sized city located 30 minutes from the white sand beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast, one hour from Pensacola, Florida and two and a half hours from New Orleans, Louisiana. The area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy water sports, camping, golf, hunting, fishing, boating, or cycling. Affordable cost of living and excellent schools makes the area ideal for those seeking a family-friendly environment. Additionally, the region is a hub for both foreign and domestic industry and continues to grow year over year. This is one of the best opportunities in the Southeast and offers a dynamic, accommodating lifestyle to any individual or family.

Gynecologic Oncology fellowship trained, those completing fellowships & practicing physicians with clinical or academic experience are encouraged to apply.
