Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Staff Andrologist.
In this role, the successful candidate under supervision of the Andrology Supervisor &/or Senior Andrologist will perform technical/clinical and research duties in the Andrology laboratory with ability to report testing results to Senior Andrologists, Supervisors, Directors and Physicians. Ability to interact with patients.
Job Responsibilities:
- Basic Procedures - Performs diagnostic semen analysis according to WHO protocol. Prepares patient documentation related to chain of custody. Performs quality assessment/grading and handling of sperm during in vitro culture. Prepares semen for intrauterine transfer. Cryopreserves semen for storage. Prepares media for swim-up utilizing proper biological and chemical laboratory safety techniques. Responds to basic inquiries regarding reports from outside providers.
- Basic Procedures - Transcribes andrology data into written and computerized program databases. Assists the embryologist in performing clinical laboratory protocols relating to analysis and preparation of semen specimens for use in an Embryology laboratory. Analyzes semen specimens for appropriateness of use in IVF procedures. Processes semen specimens for insemination in IVF procedures. Processes testicular biopsy specimens for insemination in IVF procedures and/or freezing. Daily monitoring, cleaning and calibration of equipment. Maintains appropriate inventory of laboratory chemicals and supplies.
- Documentation/Reporting - Ability to accurately enter data into and retrieve data from a predetermined Access database. Requires familiarity with PC based programs i.e. Excel and Access.
- Quality Control - Monitors equipment reagents, media, and work environment by following QC procedures. Disposes of sharps and needles in designated hazard containers. Reports malfunctions to senior personnel promptly. Follows departmental procedures and instructions. Performs all tests utilizing universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens and in accordance with procedures developed by the Program management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in a biological science including a minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic andrology techniques. Requires familiarity with PC based programs i.e. Excel and Access.
Required Licenses: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a fertility laboratory; ability to review chain of custody.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
