The PGY1 residency at Desert Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy Ambulatory Health is designed to prepare residents to become strong clinical pharmacists in a variety of healthcare settings. In addition, the program strives to prepare residents for board certification, PGY2 pharmacy residency training, and a career in academia.
Established in 2001, Desert Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy (DHOP) is located in the outpatient building of Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palm Springs, California. DHOP served the Desert Care Network which includes DRMC, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, El Mirador Surgery Center, and El Mirador Medical Plaza. DHOP also serves UCR Family Medicine Center in Palm Springs. DHOP specializes in providing ambulatory care services to a diverse patient population through established physician signed programs and collaborative practice agreements.
Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is located on the same campus as DHOP and are planning to host DHOP residents for acute care and hospital pharmacy learning experiences including: Administration, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease, Nutrition Support, NICU, Operations/Staffing, and Leadership.
Resident Activities include a clinical instructor appointment at an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy, required and elective clinical rotations, interdisciplinary care committees, attendance at the Western States Conference (WSC), and attendance at national and local residency showcases.
Program Structure: Each core rotation is four weeks. Electives may be tailored to meet the resident's interests and goals. Longitudinal learning experiences span 12 months.
Core (Required) Rotations: Administration, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Pulmonology, and Research.
Elective Rotations: Infectious Disease, Neurology, Nutrition Support, NICU, Managed Care (IEHP), and Psychiatry.
Longitudinal Experiences: Ambulatory Care, Drug Information, Operations/Staffing, Palliative Care, Teaching/Curriculum, and Leadership.
Benefits: $52,000/yr, medical/dental coverage, paid time off (10 days + 6 holidays), and travel expenses to ASHP Midyear and Western States Conference.
