Residency Special Features: The Cardiology Residency is a twelve-month program of training and experience based upon the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) standards for specialized hospital pharmacy residencies. It is designed to develop the knowledge, practice patterns, attitudes, and skills necessary to provide care in cardiovascular pharmacy practice. The program will teach the resident to serve as an expert on the optimal use of medications in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease and optimize the outcomes of patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular disease through provision of evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy. The residency program can be customized for each resident based upon the residents' interests and previous experience. However, all residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas considered to be essential to the pharmacy practitioner. A broad range of elective rotations is available to permit the resident flexibility in pursuing individual goals. By the conclusion of the residency, graduates will be prepared to establish practice as a cardiovascular pharmacy specialist. They will possess the tools and skills needed to provide optimal patient care, participate in clinical research and publishing, and serve the pharmacy profession through education and committee work.
Special Requirements for Acceptance: Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy, completion of an accredited PGY1, Saudi citizenship, eligible for pharmacist licensure in Saudi Arabia within 3 months of starting the program, and passing of an admission examination and an interview. Applications submitted must include academic transcript, curriculum vitae, a 1-page letter of intent, and 3 letters of recommendation.
