Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency Program
Holy Family Hospital is a new program in candidate status pursuing ASHP accreditation in the 2019-2020 residency year. We are seeking dedicated and motivated candidates with a collaborative mindset for our residency program. Pharmacy residents at Providence Holy Family Hospital will build on the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from a professional pharmacy degree program to improve clinical knowledge, leadership abilities, process development and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Our program is designed to meet the American Society of Health System Pharmacists requirements and residents will work in a patient centered learning environment to receive a well-rounded education. Residents will encounter a diverse patient population with predominantly acute care rotations as well as ambulatory experiences. Residents will learn all aspects of hospital pharmacy including clinical, administration, and drug distribution.
Community-Based Acute Care Setting
Providence Holy Family Hospital is a community-based, comprehensive, and progressive acute care hospital located in north Spokane – the fastest growing area in our region. We are currently licensed for 272 beds with an average daily census of 120 patients. Multiple services are offered including but not limited to: emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine, surgery and oncology.
Engaged Pharmacy Department
The staff in the pharmacy department at Providence Holy Family is a supportive group of individuals involved in providing a strong residency program. We provide multiple clinical services, utilize various prescriptive authority protocols and maintain positive and strong relationships with other disciplines in the hospital to collaborate in patient care activities.
Residents working together with a pharmacist preceptor will be actively involved in all facets of patient care provided by the pharmacy team. They will have the opportunity to participate in daily clinical activities, administrative functions, manage a long-term project related to pharmacy practice and increase clinical knowledge base.

Holy Family Hospital is part of the Providence St. Joseph Health system, one of the nation’s largest non-profit health care providers, with facilities located in Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington. The Providence St. Joseph Health organization is driven by a belief that health care is a human right and commits to improve the health of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.
Residents will manage a performance improvement project throughout the residency year. Projects are all related to pharmacy and are supported by the pharmacy department, giving residents the opportunity and experience to improve leadership abilities. Residents will also participate in a required management/administration rotation to further enhance leadership skills.

Salary, Benefits, and Travel Opportunities
Residents will be employees of Providence Holy Family Hospital and will receive a competitive salary and benefits. Benefit packages include medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage for both the resident and family members. Residents will also qualify for paid time off and will receive travel to a regional and national meeting.
Spokane and the Inland Northwest
Holy Family Hospital is located in Spokane in Eastern Washington, part of the Inland Northwest. Spokane is a city full of community involvement and experiences all four seasons which allows for multiple outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and golf. It is also home to various shopping, restaurants, concert venues and sporting events.
Applicants must be graduates of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education and must be licensed pharmacists or eligible for licensure in Washington State. If not licensed as a pharmacist at the beginning of residency, residents must be a licensed pharmacy intern in Washington state. Applicants must meet all requirements for employment and meet professional requirements of the department of pharmacy. Candidates must participate in the ASHP resident matching program.
