About Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Located just north of Los Angeles in Burbank, California, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) with 392 licensed beds is the second-largest hospital serving the San Fernando Valley. Founded in 1943 by the Sisters of Providence, PSJMC is a non-profit community hospital known for its state-of-the-art technology and high quality, compassionate care. PSJMC offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient health care services, including The Disney Family Cancer Center, The Joint Commission accredited Stroke Center, Neuroscience and Rehabilitation Services, Women’s Health Services, Neonatal ICU, as well as Emergency Department care (including designation as a STEMI receiving facility). The pharmacy department provides 24 hour care and clinical services including Antimicrobial Stewardship, TPN dosing and monitoring, drug information, drug profile review, glucose management, anticoagulant dosing and monitoring, and transition of care services. PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Features Accredited by ASHP since 2009, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center’s residency program is designed to prepare a motivated, self-directed individual to become a confident and competent clinical pharmacist. This program emphasizes personal and professional growth, enhancement of leadership skills, and development of clinical knowledge for the provision of patient-specific, evidence based care. PSJMC provides a challenging and dynamic environment for the pharmacy resident to hone communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. We are looking for highly skilled and motivated new graduates who want to train to be pharmacists in an acute care setting with an emphasis on pharmaceutical care. Learning experiences are designed to allow the resident to develop the necessary skills to succeed in acute care practice. Rotation length may vary depending on the needs and interests of the resident. Rotations include but are not limited to: Residency Requirements The resident will have completed a Pharmacy Doctorate program from an accredited college of pharmacy and have a California intern license or pharmacist license prior to beginning the program on July 1. It is expected that the resident will be a licensed pharmacist in the state of California by September 30 of the residency year. The resident’s schedule consists of a 40-hour work week that includes two weekends a month. The resident will also participate in activities necessary for maintaining accreditation and is expected to precept fourth year pharmacy students on clinical rotations.
