PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The PGY1 Pharmacy residency program at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center includes a combination of core and longitudinal experiences to help the resident become competent in providing drug therapy recommendations. The pharmacy resident will work with the healthcare team in an interdisciplinary environment by participating in rounds, monitoring drug therapy, and providing drug information and education. The program also provides opportunities to develop leadership skills by participating in several multidisciplinary committees as well as presentation opportunities in the form of journal clubs, topic discussions, and grand rounds presentations.
