The purpose of the PGY1 residency program at WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Residents will work closely with the healthcare team and patients in various settings to achieve optimal cost-effective care and safety for patients. The residency program will provide essential clinical tools for the pharmacist such as medication therapy management, counseling and teaching patients, medication reconciliation, and medication distribution.
The WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is a 2-facility program affiliated with Shenanadoah University. Our university affiliation provides the opportunity to earn a teaching certificate. A majority of the learning experiences occur at WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital with some additional unique learning experiences offered at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital. The WellSpan Wayensboro Hospital residency program focuses on a broad range of topics targeted to provide a well-rounded trained professional. The resident will have opportunity to earn a Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate from SIDP and Lean Leadership Certificate with expenses covered by WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital.
This 2 hospital system offers the variety of a large hospital at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital (273 beds) and the personal touch of a small institution at Wellspan Waynesboro Hospital (57 beds). The distance between facilities is 16 miles or about 30 minutes. We are located within an easy drive of many metropolitan areas (75 miles to both Baltimore and Washington DC). We experience all 4 seasons and are located in a beautiful area of The Cumberland Valley.
