WellSpan York Hospital's PGY1 Residency Program offers flexibility and progressive practice experiences. Our experienced and dedicated preceptors ensure competence, build confidence and instill responsibility for drug therapy outcomes.
Our pharmacy services include 24-hour automated and computerized drug distribution, featuring unit-dose, IV admixture, computerized-provider order entry, barcode technology, medication carousels and automated dispensing cabinets. We also offer decentralized distributive and clinical services, a renal adjustment dosing program, pharmacokinetic monitoring and dosing service, drug therapy monitoring and specialized clinical consult services including an anticoagulation management, nutrition support and pain management.
The PGY1 Residency is a one-year practice experience. The program was accredited by ASHP in 1999 with subsequent reaccreditation in 2013 and 2019 (awarded maximum 8 year accreditation period). Emphasis is placed on providing rational and cost-effective drug therapy in a community teaching hospital through participation in interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
The purpose of the PGY1 Residency Program at WellSpan York Hospital is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for PGY2 pharmacy residency training.

WellSpan York Hospital
The region's leader in advanced specialty care, WellSpan York Hospital is a 580-bed community teaching hospital which serves a population of over 520,000 in south-central Pennsylvania. As a Level One Regional Resource Trauma Center, a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center with endovascular neurosurgery capabilities, a certified Chest Pain Center, a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a high-risk pregnancy referral center, and many other advanced clinical specialties, the hospital is an outstanding training site for medical and dental students, residents, and fellows. The Hospital is a Regional Medical Campus of Drexel University College of Medicine, and is one of only 400 members of the prestigious Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH), with a long history of excellence in medical education. Over 150 residents and fellows are based at WellSpan York Hospital for their training, and over 400 medical students complete clinical rotations here yearly. The fully-staffed, high-tech WellSpan Medical Simulation Center supports our training efforts and has allowed us to beome a leader in real-life medical and surgical simulations, and in interprofessional education (IPE).
