Cookeville Regional Medical Center offers a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program that will build clinical and leadership skills that are essential for pharmacists to efficiently and effectively operate in today's health care environment. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program offered at CRMC is a 12-month, American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited program. The residency program was initiated in 2011 and is currently offering three positions. Intensive and varied experiences are offered in critical care, internal medicine, practice management, metabolic support, oncology, medication safety, drug information, anticoagulation, infectious disease, cardiology, ambulatory care, emergency medicine and informatics. Core rotations and longitudinal experiences are required for completion of the program. Once core requirements are met, residents may customize the remainder of their residency year based on personal interest.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for pharmaceutical care of patients including all age groups (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics). Applicant is also responsible for participating in Pharmacy Quality Improvement activities and teaching pharmacotherapeutics and community medication education classes. Prospective resident will use knowledge and critical judgment to make decisions concerning patient drug therapy. He/she should demonstrate knowledge of the psychosocial needs, clinical assessment implications, and/or consequences of technology upon the following age groups:
Neonate: 0 – 12 days
Infant: 13 days – 1 year
Toddler: 1 – 4 years
School-Age: 5 – 12 years
Adolescent: 13 years – 17 years
Adult: 18 years – 64 years
Geriatric: 65 years – and older
Applicant should possess the ability to work independently in clinical activities and in development of workflow processes and procedures. Good communication skills linking pharmacy, nursing service and the medical staff is mandatory.

EDUCATION: Pharm. D. degree with required experiential education
