Program Description As the only ASHP accredited program in the state of New Jersey, the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program at Saint Peter’s University Hospital is designed to provide a broad exposure to patient care in a goal-oriented, interactive teaching environment. Experience and knowledge are developed through learning experiences with highly skilled pharmacy and non-pharmacy preceptors dedicated to patient care and education. Flexibility allows residents to tailor learning experiences to meet their individual interests and career goals. Residents will complete a major project aimed at improving pharmaceutical care within the institution as well as participate in medication use evaluations and multidisciplinary committees. Residents gain teaching experience by serving as co-preceptors for pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents; and providing continuing education for pharmacists and members of the health care team. Residents interested in strengthening their skills in presenting lectures and precepting students may participate in a teaching certificate program at Rutgers University, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. Upon completion of this residency program, residents will possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and faculty positions as well as board certification as a Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist. Learning Experiences Required learning experiences include; General Pediatrics, Hematology / Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neonatal Intensive Care, Obstetrics / Maternal Fetal Medicine, Orientation, Pediatric Intensive Care, Practice Management (longitudinal), Research Project (longitudinal) and Service Commitment (longitudinal). In addition, elective learning experiences are available in Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Surgery, Informatics, Management and Medication Safety.
