Overview of Pharmacy Services
Residents participate in patient care and leadership activities at our Edgewood, Florence, and Ft. Thomas facilities. Edgewood has approximately 500 hospital beds, Florence 200 hospital beds, and Ft. Thomas 200 hospital beds. The pharmacy departments at Edgewood, Florence and Ft. Thomas operate 24 hours a day.
The Inpatient Department of Pharmacy utilizes a hybrid model, combining clinical and distributive skills. This model allows for majority of our pharmacy staff to be decentralized, actively participating in patient care on the nursing units. Each pharmacist has the ability to proactively enhance patient care and quality of life by helping to solve health-related problems as they relate to the selection, use, delivery and distribution of pharmaceuticals. Through our unique knowledge of disease states, therapeutics and pharmaceutical science, as well as our ability to communicate effectively and sensitively, we assist in the management of all aspects of patient care. The Inpatient Pharmacy provides outstanding clinical programs including:
Inpatient hospital protocols including, but not limited to: antibiotic pharmacokinetic dosing, anticoagulation management, total parenteral nutrition, renal and hepatic dose adjustments, IV to PO conversion, etc…
Residents also have opportunity to participate in patient care and leadership activities on the outpatient and ambulatory side of St. Elizabeth Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Physicians.
