LifePoint Health® offers a distinctive two-year pharmacy informatics residency program in Nashville, Tennessee—the nation’s health care industry capital. LifePoint Health® owns and operates 89 community hospital campuses as well as regional health systems, physician practices, outpatient centers, and post-acute facilities in communities across 29 states. Our mission is Making Communities Healthier.
The goal of the two-year residency in Pharmacy Informatics is to offer training and education for pharmacists interested in pharmacy informatics and providing safe medication use through clinical information systems and automation; and to prepare candidates for pharmacy informatics positions in the health informatics sector.
The resident develops competencies and skills in the general areas of pharmacy practice according to the ASHP PGY1 goals and objectives, including pharmacy practice and management, clinical rotations, drug information, patient care, and an emphasis in pharmacy informatics in the PGY1 year. The PGY2 year focuses on applying pharmacy informatics principles and best practices across all health information systems and technologies available in LifePoint Health® facilities. In addition, the resident will gain experience in areas such as medication management, leadership development, project management, clinical decision support, and data management.
LifePoint Health® has partnered with Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy for this unique program. Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy requires a teaching and learning certificate and offers optional elective opportunities to teach and precept students, a certificate of advanced study in Health Care Informatics, and/or a Master of Science in Health Care Informatics.
