The Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center is located in Martinsburg, WV. Martinsburg VAMC is a level 1C multi-mission tertiary care facility, which includes a medical center, seven primary care office-site clinics, a domiciliary and long-term care. We currently have 3 PGY-1 Residency positions and 1 PGY-2 Psychiatric position. The residency programs are directly affiliated with Shenandoah University (SU) with teaching opportunities available, including a teaching and learning curriculum program.
The mission of the VAMC Martinsburg PGY-1 Residency Program is to develop competent pharmacists professionally equipped to serve as clinical pharmacy specialists in a variety of practice settings. A graduate of this residency program will be an experienced practitioner in ambulatory care and internal medicine. Also, graduates of this program will have a firm grasp of management and the pharmacist’s role and function in a medical center and the community. This residency will instill graduates with enthusiasm for the profession, problem solving, and personal growth, while holding them to the highest ethical standards. Graduates of this residency are leaders who are dedicated to a career of pharmacy service and have potential for future development to assume the upmost responsibilities of leadership and citizenship in the medical community.
PGY-1 Core rotations: PACT, LTC/Geriatrics, Infectious Disease, Critical Care, Oncology, Anticoagulation and Psychiatry.
The Martinsburg VAMC also a one year postgraduate PGY-2 in psychiatric pharmacy that is intended to combine clinical, teaching and administrative components. This will help specialize practice on the care of patients with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders. The psychiatric pharmacist will work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team focusing on improving patient care and access in a variety of mental health settings. This PGY-2 pharmacy residency is geared toward preparing residents for advanced patient care in psychiatry, other specialized positions and board certification.
PGY-2 Rotations: Acute Psychiatry I, Acute Psychiatry II, Outpatient Psychiatry, Geropsychiatry, Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP), Neurology, PCMHI, Academia and Administration.
