The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center is a 12 month ASHP accredited program with two available positions. PGY1 Program Purpose: PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Resident activities include:
ACLS/BLS/PALS training, Drug event reporting, Budget review, Cost utilization reviews, Drug event reporting, Drug information, Formulary management, Interdisciplinary rounds, Journal Clubs, Medication use evaluation, Nursing and medical staff education, Pharmacy continuing education, Pharmacy student precepting, Research project, Staffing, including a requirement for every other weekend from 8 a.m. – noon, plus one evening shift per week, Teaching Certificate (optional)

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:
Have a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy or FPGEC certificate from the NABP
Be eligible for Virginia Licensure
Participate in the Resident Matching Program
