The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) sponsored PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program is a concentrated 12.5 month, full-time curriculum. The program is designed to provide a learning environment whereby the resident is trained to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and pharmacy services. Upon completion of this program, the resident will be prepared to practice as a clinical pharmacist overseeing medication-related care of a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible for a PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
Accredited as an ASHP PGY1 program, this residency program offers numerous unique experiences not traditionally offered by other PGY1 programs. Residency learning experience are conducted primarily in outpatient, community, transitions of care and ambulatory care settings. Each rotation contains elements of fundamental managed care practice concepts learned while managing the University of Toledo self-insured prescription benefit. A teaching certificate program is available and provides an opportunity for the resident to gain teaching experiences in the classroom, small group teaching and with oversight of other learners.
