Sanford USD Medical Center’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is ASHP-accredited and is designed to provide exceptional, tailored experiential learning while facilitating professional growth and development of the pharmacy resident. Our program is based on 4-week learning experiences in addition to longitudinal learning experiences that occur over the course of the residency year. We strive to customize the residency year and learning experiences to each resident’s individual needs and pride ourselves on the flexibility necessary to provide this customization.
Our program requires experiences in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Critical Care, Anticoagulation, and Medication Safety.
We offer a breadth of elective learning experiences including Emergency Medicine, Pharmacogenetics, Infectious Disease, Nutrition, Nephrology/Transplant, Oncology, Neonatology, and Ambulatory Anticoagulation Services.
Each resident is required to complete a large-scale project over the course of the year and will attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, SDSHP Annual Meeting, and the Midwest Residency Conference, all as part of the residency program.
Currently, our residents provide decentralized pharmacy services every third weekend. This includes pharmacokinetic monitoring, anticoagulation management, nutrition management, renal dose management and order verification.
We collaborate with the South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy to provide our residents with opportunities to teach and precept through the completion of a Teaching Certificate Program. This is a required longitudinal experience for our residents and is coordinated by SDSU College of Pharmacy.
Residents are provided paid health insurance and 24 days of Paid-Time-Off (includes holidays). The resident stipend is competitive and updated annually.
