PGY2 residents longitudinally manage complex patients within a rural ambulatory care practice, completing at least 6 months in a single clinic. Residents develop advanced skill in the management of hyperlipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, tobacco cessation, chronic pain, congestive heart failure, anticoagulation and mental health. The primary clinical site is Grand Island, however residents complete a Pain/Whole Health rotation (Omaha VA), as well as a Rural Ambulatory Care rotation at our satellite clinic in North Platte. The Mental Health rotation can be completed at the Omaha or Grand Island campus.
Elective opportunities include: cardiology/CHF clinic, endocrinology/nutrition, pharmacy administration, academic detailing, informatics, pharmacoeconomics, anticoagulation, academia, geriatrics and home- based primary care. PGY2 residents will be actively involved with precepting both APPE students and PGY1 residents. Residents may elect to complete the online teaching certificate program offered through Creighton University (if a teaching certificate not already earned through the PGY1 year). The PGY2 Program is very flexible to the interests and goals of the resident. The RPD will work closely with the resident to ensure the entire year is tailored and will help created new opportunities as needed. The RPD will meet with PGY1/PGY2 residents at least monthly to insure residents are on track and needs are being met. https://www.nebraska.va.gov/nemprov/Pharmacy_Residency/PGY_2_Pharmacy_Residency_Program.asp
