The 2019-2020 PGY1 residents will receive a stipend of $43,500.
Residents will be given 10 days for vacation and sick leave in addition to 4 holidays off during their 12-month program.

Funding for Professional Meetings
Financial support will be provided to each resident attending ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting in December, the ALCALDE Pharmacy Residency Leadership Conference in April and the Oklahoma Society of Health System Pharmacists Residency Research Conference in May. The amount of support is dependent on the availability of funds. Funding for additional meetings may be provided at the discretion of the Residency Program and the Pharmacy Director.
Resident involvement in all teaching activities fosters the development and refinement of the resident’s communication skills and knowledge base. This experience can build confidence and promote the effectiveness of the resident as a teacher. Residents will serve as co-preceptors for P-4 pharmacy students from OU College of Pharmacy on clinical rotations, and are expected to act as role models for these students. Residents also provide didactic instruction to Emergency Medicine physician residents. In addition, residents will be active in the hospital by participating in activities not limited to in-services, journal clubs, topic discussions, case studies and small group discussions throughout the year. ASHP Teaching Certificate is offered as an option.
Each resident is required to develop and complete a research project during their 12-month tenure. Faculty and clinical staff will present project ideas during orientation, and residents will select a research topic based on their clinical interests. An appropriate preceptor will be selected to mentor and supervise the resident. Residents will develop a formal research proposal and submit the proposal to the Investigational Review Board (IRB) for approval. Each resident will present a poster on their research topic at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting. Podium presentations are required at the ALCALDE Pharmacy Residency Leadership Conference and the Oklahoma Society of Health System Pharmacists Residency Research Conference in the spring.
PGY-1 residents are required to fulfill the service commitment (staffing) designed to ensure that residents gain experience and can function as individual, competent clinical practitioners. Each resident will train with preceptors and basic training, split between clinical and distribution/dispensing duties, will take place during the first 5 weeks of residency. At the conclusion of the basic training period, the designated preceptors and the resident will mutually determine if the resident is ready to function independently as a pharmacist.
Each resident will staff four evening shifts every 3 weeks, Monday through Thursday (4 hour shifts) beginning September 1st (usually scheduled as one evening per week for two weeks, followed by two evenings during the third week).
Each resident will work every third weekend (8 to 10 hour shifts) performing clinical reviews and assisting the clinical specialists with consult patients.
Each resident must work on one major holiday (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day).
All 3 PGY-1 residents will also be required to work Memorial Day weekend.
Qualifications for participation in Norman Regional Health System PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program are in accordance with criteria set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Resident applicants shall be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program OR have equivalent experience.
Resident applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Oklahoma. Licensure must be obtained by October 1st.
Resident applicants shall participate and adhere to all rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program Process.
Resident applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
