The Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center’s PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency is an organized, directed, postgraduate training program in ambulatory care pharmacy practice. The goal of this residency program is to enable residents to develop the knowledge and experience necessary to provide pharmaceutical care to ambulatory patients with a strong emphasis on developing and mastering clinical skills in the outpatient setting.
This program will offer the resident the opportunity for longitudinal patient care experiences within our Medication Management, Anticoagulation, and HIV Clinics. In addition, the resident will have the opportunity to rotate through specialty clinics as part of elective learning experiences. The resident will have opportunities to conduct direct patient visits, participate in community outreach, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other clinical staff. Residents will be able to focus on developing and refining skills in managing complex chronic medical conditions, providing patient-centered care, and practicing motivational interviewing.
The program also has a required longitudinal administrative component in order to develop practice management skills with emphasis on aspects of clinical pharmacy services.
Teaching experience is also gained by completing monthly lectures during Pharmacy Grand Rounds for pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and pharmacy technicians. Residents will also have the opportunity to serve as a co-preceptor for pharmacy students and mentor PGY-1 Pharmacy residents. Residents are also able to participate in a teaching certificate program with fellow pharmacy residents.
