The unique 12 month ambulatory care experience at the UNM College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Center provides the resident the opportunity to train with certified Pharmacist Clinicians who practice with prescriptive authority. This is one of the most advanced pharmacy practice models in the country and the resident will earn patient contact hours towards a NM pharmacist clinician license. The residency rotations are tailored to the interests of the resident allowing for numerous electives and the ability to sub-specialize in various interest areas. This residency offers one of the few opportunities nationwide to train in an interdisciplinary clinic providing care to transgender individuals. Other unique and innovative clinical rotations include diabetes and metabolic risk management for patients with HIV, pain management, outpatient nephrology, in addition to primary care experiences that will provide expert level training in diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction. For residents interested in a career in academia, this program offers a wide variety of teaching opportunities in the large class and patient care lab setting, a teaching certificate program, and an academia elective effectively preparing the resident for a career in the academic setting.
