PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in that practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists).
The purpose of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center’s PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency is to equip a clinically trained pharmacist with the knowledge and skills to implement, support and maintain clinical information systems and automation used in one or more steps of the medication use process. The residency graduate will be capable of independently and collaboratively completing short- and long-term projects. The graduate will expertly represent clinical and automation requirements from a pharmacist’s perspective to technical, clinical, and administrative stakeholders for a given technology. The residency experience will provide a firm foundation for the graduate to pursue a leadership role in health care informatics as a long term goal.
The resident will complete a combination of one-month rotations and longitudinal experiences designed around the resident’s interest and available projects.
