The PGY1 Community-based Residency at the Lloyd L Gregory School of Pharmacy provides training in an independent community pharmacy. Atlantis Pharmacy is a member of Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network (CPESN) Florida and offers enhanced patient care services, including INR monitoring, cholesterol screening, medication reconciliation, comprehensive medication reviews, and immunizations. In addition, the pharmacy offers compounding services and provides adherence packaging to a variety of living facilities. This faith-based program prepares pharmacists as servant leaders within the profession and provides practitioners with unique opportunities and experiences in both community and ambulatory care settings and allows the resident to participate in academic teaching.
The program’s learning experiences provide opportunities to: (1) prepare individuals for direct patient care positions; (2) develop skills in owning and/or managing an independent pharmacy; (3) cultivate leaders capable of medication therapy management (MTM) development that deliver advanced services to optimize patient care; and (4) serve as role models in the advancement of community-based practice.
The residency program activities and experiences are conducted a majority of the time at Atlantis Pharmacy, an independent community pharmacy located 1 block north of JFK Medical Center. Atlantis Pharmacy’s goal is to exceed the expectations of patients and providers with the highest quality of services and products and does so by working collaboratively with health care professionals to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to all patients.
