Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, Inova's flagship hospital, is a 927-bed tertiary referral center serving the Washington, DC, metro area. Inova Fairfax Hospital's PGY-1 pharmacy residency program has been ASHP accredited since 1990. Our post-graduate training program is designed to prepare pharmacists to pursue a clinical pharmacy career in a health system environment. Our residents have gone on to become patient care clinical pharmacists in a hospital setting or have gone on to matriculate into a PGY-2 residency training program in their area of choice.
The primary emphasis of the PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency program is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and promote the development of key practice skills that will grow our trainees into confident, competent clinical pharmacy clinicians. PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs focus on general competencies in managing medication-use systems and support optimal medication therapy outcomes for patients with a broad range of disease states. Our site allows opportunities in a number of various specialty areas such as critical care, pediatrics, oncology, and organ transplant.
Residents will also be given the opportunity to develop and enhance their practice management and leadership skills through focused departmental responsibilities.
