Presbyterian Healthcare Service’s (PHS) PGY2 ID residency program is designed to develop a practitioner proficient in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship. The primary responsibility of the resident includes participation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) and clinical activities with the general ID physician consult services. The resident will contribute to antimicrobial stewardship activities at inpatient, outpatient, and population levels within the integrated healthcare system. The resident will precept PGY1 residents and UNM College of Pharmacy students.
The PHS ID/ASP program enjoys strong senior leadership commitment and active collaboration with ID physician groups. The team utilizes EPIC ICON software, which allows for system-wide impact. The resident will have the opportunity to work with experts throughout the enterprise, and across the continuum of care to enhance patient care through optimizing antimicrobial therapy, driving change through EPIC enhancements, and in the population health arena. Residents who successfully complete this program will possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in infectious diseases pharmacy.
Learning Experiences (Required):
Learning experiences are typically four weeks long and include:
Adult Intensive Care
Antimicrobial Stewardship*, including staffing as antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist
Educating and Precepting*
Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy, including HIV and Hepatitis C
Pediatrics/Neonatology (general and intensive care)
Practice Management*, with an emphasis on Antimicrobial Stewardship Program management
Society for Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) certificate program*
Physical assessment course and accruing of patient encounters towards Pharmacist Clinician licensure
University of New Mexico teaching program

The PGY2 ID Pharmacy Residency conducted by Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Albuquerque, NM, is accredited by ASHP.
You must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy, be eligible for New Mexico licensure and be in the process of completing, or have completed, an ASHP-accredited (or candidate status) PGY1 program.
The following information should be submitted via ASHP's Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) on or before January 10, 2020:
Letter of intent
Official transcript(s) of all pharmacy-related coursework
Three letters of recommendation (one letter should be from PGY1 Residency Program Director)
An on-site interview with presentation is required.
The PHS PGY2 ID program participates in the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
