Evolent Health PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency
Evolent Health
The mission of our residency program is to develop clinically-minded managed care pharmacists who will contribute to improving the health of the nation by changing the way health care is delivered. The purpose of a PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency program is to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop managed care pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership and education skills who are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A managed care residency will provide systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice. The resident will have opportunities to develop evidence-based clinical decision making, project management, analytical and leadership skills. Learning experiences include: direct patient care with an interdisciplinary team (care management, MTM), medical use evaluation/DUR, quality metrics and initiatives, plan management (utilization, formulary), specialty pharmacy, P&T support, analytics/informatics. Our affiliation with Shenandoah University School to Pharmacy provides an opportunity to gain experience in teaching, curriculum development and student precepting. The underlying current of the Evolent residency program is a strong foothold in clinical services. The resident is immersed within the clinical pharmacy services team for the duration of the program. Clinical service activities are a longitudinal focus of the program. The resident will progress to be an effective independent clinician with a perspective and appreciation of managed care which offers a lens for providing holistic care of patients.
