The mission of Ballad Health’s PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN, is to work collaboratively with all members of the medical center’s healthcare team to promote safe, effective and fiscally responsible pharmacotherapy.
Bristol Regional provides institutional and clinical pharmacy training for Doctor of Pharmacy students from nearby colleges of pharmacy.
Bristol Regional Medical Center pharmacy residency program was established in 2011. The 12-month ASHP post-graduate program is designed to provide two residents each year with the knowledge, abilities, experience, and critical thinking skills necessary to become clinical pharmacists in any health system. The program is structured to allow the resident to develop skills in many areas based on ASHP accreditation standards.
The pharmacy residency provides experience in a variety of settings including direct patient care, medication safety, and practice management while also allowing flexibility to meet individualized preferences. The program includes highly trained clinical practitioners who are dedicated to teaching.
A teaching certificate is also available through East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.
Upon completion of the program, the resident will be ready to apply his or her skills in direct patient care, exhibit excellent decision-making skills, and provide education and leadership in the care of patients. The resident will also be prepared to enter into a PGY-2 program if desired.
