The PGY-1 residency at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is designed to prepare the resident to become a pharmacist clinician in the inpatient setting. Residents have the opportunity to learn from a diverse and experienced preceptor group that includes Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Leadership, and Staff Pharmacists. Available learning experiences include: Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Disease, Medication Safety, Administration, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Surgical Services, and Emergency Medicine. Residents have the opportunity to select two elective rotations following completion of core requirements. Longitudinal projects include preparation of an MUE to be shared as a poster at ASHP Midyear and a research project for presentation at Eastern States Residency Conference. Residents will assist in precepting pharmacy clerkship students and participate in the Shenandoah University Teaching and Learning Curriculum Program. Residents will actively participate in hospital and health-system committees including teams focused on Antimicrobial Stewardship, Stroke, Medication Safety, Readmissions, Sepsis, and Anticoagulation.
Candidates will complete all required components of the PhorCas residency application system and must be eligible for Virginia Pharmacist license.
