PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe pharmacy practice (PGY-1) residency is a 12 month program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and was initiated in 1993 with one residency position and has grown over the years to five available positions. This residency offers the opportunity to learn and practice pharmaceutical care in an acute setting with an emphasis in critical care. Experiences are offered in management, critical care, cardiology, oncology, nutrition, transplant, pediatrics, general medicine and informatics. Focused and personalized needs are also incorporated into each resident's program goals. This site utilizes the ASHP Residency Learning System extensively, which offers the resident a well-planned experience, which is tailored, personalized and progressive.
PROGRAM MISSIONThe PGY-1 year is focused on establishing a core skill set in clinical practice, pharmacy operations and pharmacy leadership. More specifically, the program works on development of these core skills by focusing on drug information and literature evaluation, pharmacotherapy evaluation and management, project based research and team functioning, presentation development and delivery, direct patient interaction/decision making and decision justification.
