Postgraduate year two ambulatory care residency focusing on the provision of integrated medication management services in both a private and public health setting through interdisciplinary clinics as well as pharmacist-run chronic disease management clinics.
Designed as a longitudinal program, residents will have a comprehensive experience in ambulatory care in a public health environment including pharmacist-run disease state management clinics, disease surveillance, adult health, immunization, medical data analysis, and project management. Private provider service includes adult health, pharmacist-run AADE accredited diabetes service. Both chronic care management and and adult wellness visit services are also being developed currently.
As a Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy program, residents get extensive exposure to academia and precepting. Elective time is provided to allow the resident to focus on areas of interest. Residents have the opportunity to precept fourth year pharmacy students, work with students in the classroom and laboratory settings, as well as earn a teaching certificate. Other activities include certificates in diabetes, travel medicine, physical assessment and research, participation in professional seminar series, staff/provider education, completion of one major and additional smaller project throughout the year, community service, and participation in Jefferson County Collaborative team work.
Residents qualify for Samford University benefits and receive travel and meeting registration reimbursement for the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
