Memorial Medical Center and Pharmacy Services:
Memorial Medical Center is a 521 bed teaching-community hospital that serves as a primary teaching site for the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU-SOM). Memorial also serves as a pharmacy teaching site for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy (SIUE-SOP), Midwestern University-Downers Grove and St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Department utilizes an advanced robotic dispensing system which allows unit-based pharmacists to provide a wide variety of clinical pharmacy services.
Memorial Medical Center is a designated Magnet hospital for nursing, a Bariatric Center of Excellence, a Kidney and Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Center, Regional Cancer Center, Level I Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. In addition, Memorial is a center known for general surgery, orthopedic surgery, cardiac services, critical care services, renal services, maternity services, psychiatric and rehabilitative services.

Memorial is a clinical practice site for SIUE School of Pharmacy faculty, with practices in internal medicine. Pharmacists at MMC participate in many hospital committees and provide education to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
The resident will actively participate in departmental and institutional committees, complete a major residency project, present project results at a regional conference and provide continuing education for practicing pharmacists. Residents will also precept students from SIUe School of Pharmacy throughout the year.

Applicants must provide current curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation. If selected for an on-site interview, the applicant will be required to give a brief presentation as part of the interview process. Illinois licensure is required by September 1 of the residency year. In collaboration with the SIUE School of Pharmacy, the pharmacy resident will earn a teaching certificate through a hybrid, web-based learning platform. Self-directed learning modules guide the resident through important concepts in preparation for delivery of formal didactic lectures, small-group facilitation, precepting of students and assessment.
Requirements for Completion
Upon successful completion of all program requirements and compliance with all conditions of the residency program, the resident shall be awarded a certificate of completion. Requirements for successful completion include:
85% or more of goals marked as “achieved for residency” (ACHR) and all other goals and objectives marked as “satisfactory progress” or “achieved” in PharmAcademic
Satisfactory completion of all assignments by preceptors and Residency Program Director (RPD)
Provide a one-hour Continuing Education Program for practicing pharmacists
Poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting or approved equivalent
A Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) or equivalent
An analysis of adverse drug events (ADEs)
A bulletin/newsletter or equivalent for hospital staff
Completion of a major research project and presentation at the Great Lakes States Residency Conference or approved equivalent
Attendance at a minimum of one state health-system pharmacy meeting
Staffing requirements (every 3rd weekend and two holidays)
Completion of teaching certificate thru SIUe School of Pharmacy.
Completion of a manuscript suitable for publication for the resident’s research project.
The resident must upload all completed activities, projects and presentations for the residency into PharmAcademic prior to certification presentation
