This Clinical Research CPOE Pharmacist position will be responsible for:
Providing advanced clinical pharma-subject matter expertise in support of the implementation and maintenance of the Clinical Research program.
Assisting in the transitioning paper-based orders/protocols into the Cerner supported technologies.
Providing review and interpretation and support of the development of the protocols for patient medications in accordance with established departmental and professional standards.
Working collaboratively with the Information Services Department and key information systems stakeholders to develop and maintain effective systems to document the care process and to ensure systems are user-friendly and consider clinical priorities for care.
Working with Information Services Department and clinical staff to test functionality for new applications and upgrades to existing systems. Participate in maintaining database of scripts which test system functionality in ways that reflect real-world workflow and care across all disciplines.
Preparing and providing drug information and advising on therapeutic alternatives.
Developing and implementing drug therapy protocols.
Reviewing, filling and dispensing physician medication orders/prescriptions. Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure drug and dosage are appropriate for patient and to identify possible adverse reactions, contacting physician as needed.
Monitoring and maintaining internal systems, procedures and guidelines for assigned unit/service. Reviewing and updating operations and practicing guidelines for governing area of responsibility.
Maintaining knowledge of current professional trends and practices through participation in professional organizations and attendance at seminars, conferences and other continuing education programs.
The position will have a direct reporting relationship to the pharmacy IT department at Boston Children's and an indirect reporting relationship with both the Clinical Trials Unit and the Children's Hospital IT departmental leadership team.
In order to qualify you must have:
Knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy plus up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and three to four years of previous experience.
The analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experienced-based knowledge.
Communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or well-developed writing skills
