Job Description Summary
The pharmacist will be responsible for performing all of the duties of a licensed pharmacist to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to the patients of PennVet. In addition to overseeing dispensing responsibilities, the pharmacist will collaborate with the clinical pharmacist to increase efficiency and financial outcomes within the department, promote adherence to all federal and state laws related to veterinary medicine, monitor inventory, and participate in clinical activities as assigned.
PharmD degree and at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Manage the day to day operation of the pharmacy department by providing direct supervision of technicians.
Enforce compliance with all pharmacy policy and procedure including proper record keeping and reporting of controlled substances, and maintaining established pharmacy workflow
Monitor inventory levels and make recommendations to improve on hand inventory while increasing financial accountability
Participate in development of future pharmacy initiatives such as medication disposal programs, client adherence programs, etc.
Must have a working knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800 guidelines
Assist in updating the master formulas and log sheets on an annual basis
Assist in developing new compounding master formulas as needed
Provide a high level of customer service by resolving all client concerns in a professional and courteous manner while staying within the guidelines of the pharmacy department and adhering to all federal and state laws
Escalate recurring customer service issues to the clinical pharmacist for research and resolution of the underlying problem
Create and monitor a list of backordered medication.Provide alternative solutions when the requested medication is unavailable.
Participate in answering drug information questions from PennVet clinicians and referring veterinarians
Participate in pharmacy committee (aka P&T Committee) meetings
Participate in approval of restricted antimicrobials
Assist in annual review of hazardous medication list
Previous supervisory experience of 4 or more direct reports
Previous experience as a preceptor of IPPE and APPE students
Ability to provide coaching and feedback to effectively achieve desired outcome
Ability to positively influence employee engagement resulting in departmental growth
Previous experience using data analysis to promote compliance with pharmacy initiatives
Basic knowledge of chemotherapy and closed system transfer devices
Previous experience using aseptic technique
Previous experience successfully implementing new medication related programs to further promote pharmacy services
Takes the initiative to improve working environment
