Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is now accepting applications for a Pharmacist in the hospital's Pharmacy. LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion, equine, and food animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, state of the art care. This position will be responsible for providing distributive and clinical services surrounding the preparation, delivery, and administration of medications to inpatients and outpatients. This includes, but is not limited to, duties expected in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings. Additionally the incumbent will be responsible for dispensing of prescription orders for hospital inpatients and clinic outpatients of both the Small Animal Hospital and Large Animal Hospital, entering/verifying prescription data into the computer system and verifying accuracy and appropriateness of order, compounding of special request orders, both sterile and non-sterile, pulling floor stock requests for hospital units, and serving as a drug information resource to hospital staff, clients, faculty, residents, interns and veterinary technicians. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, able to work independently or as a team, maintain confidentiality, and be detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational qualities, and effective oral and written communications are necessary to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with and directly supervise the work of others. The ideal candidate will have professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and have a compassionate, and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.
Required Education and Experience:
PharmD and 1 year of related experience AND a License to practice Pharmacy in the State of Iowa.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Rotational or paid work experience in a large/small animal veterinary hospital pharmacy with in house veterinary clinicians, faculty, technical staff, and student workers
Rotational or paid work experience with both sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical compounding including veterinary preparations and familiarity with different compounding equipment used in the hospital pharmacy
This position may be required to work occasional Saturdays.
