The University of Washington Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (50% FTE), day shift, MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKER 1 OR 2. this Social Work Professional serves as a member of the UWMC Inpatient Psychiatry health care teams, providing direct services to Inpatient Psychiatry patients and their support systems, through the provision of psychosocial assessments; counseling; advocacy; education and referrals; and treatment and discharge planning.This social work professional will demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patient in the service area.RESPONSIBILITIES:Participate as a member of UWMC Inpatient Psychiatry multidisciplinary treatment teams, attending medical rounds as appropriate, regular team meetings, and providing consultation with team members re: patient treatment and discharge planningConduct psychosocial screening and assessment on all patients admitted to Inpatient Psychiatry to determine need for social work intervention. Assessment may include financial need, housing, drug and alcohol issues, psychiatric issues, coping ability and available support systems.Facilitate family conferences and coordinate discharge plans with the medical teamProvide brief individual, couples, or family therapy sessions as indicatedAct as a liaison between UWMC services and community resourcesServe as a patient advocate in assisting with the procurement of services necessary for patient to return to the highest level of independent functioning in the community at dischargeServe as a resource for assisting in the education of rotating Psychiatry residents and medical studentsAssist with Inpatient Psychiatry program developmentAs a Social Worker II, serve as a Practicum Instructor for MSW student internsParticipate in seminars, workshops, lectures as needed and as appropriateParticipate as an active member of a Clinical Social Work Team, sharing responsibility for team facilitation via a model of rotation, and contributing to the successful functioning of the social work team and departmentDuring periods of low census in primary service area, provide back-up to other Social Work Department service delivery sites as assignedAttend Social Work Department staff meetings, submit statistics on daily activity, communicate information on changing service needs to the department as neededParticipate in medical center interdisciplinary activities, such as committees, staffing, information meetingsEstablish effective communication and collaborative problem solving in interdepartmental working relationshipsMaintain an environment that respects cultural, economic ethnic, and lifestyle difference of patients, visitors and staffDemonstrate accountability for own growth and competency.
