This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Oncology. The position is located at the Center for Advanced Medicine. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position involves reviewing and filling of prescriptions and dispensing of medications to patients; supervising pharmacy technicians during preparation / distribution of injectable and oral medications and checking technicians work before dispensing; maintenance of patient profiles and appropriate entry of medication orders and prescriptions in the pharmacy computer; responsible for daily operations of the pharmacy in the absence of the pharmacy director.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives medication orders from authorized prescribers; interprets medication order, and enters order in pharmacy computer.� Orders are reviewed for accuracy, appropriateness and body surface area and dosages are verified; orders are reviewed for drug allergies and/or drug interactions; Maintains accurate patient profiles.
Reviews all pertinent laboratory data prior to dispensing to assure safety and determine if dose(s) should be modified or withheld.� Physician(s) notified if problems exist.
Verifies appropriate compounding by technicians of all medication orders including injectables, cytotoxic medications, home infusion and oral medications. Medication orders are checked for appropriate calculations and right drug, right dose, right patient before dispensing.
Prepares, checks, and dispenses outpatient prescriptions and maintains accurate records for original prescriptions and refills; assures accurate filing is performed by technician; generates daily prescription log sheet and signs log sheet.
Assures compliance with state and federal regulations, securing/renewing licenses and registrations as required; obtains required hours of continuing education as outlined by Missouri Board of Pharmacy.
Assures compliance with drug formulary to meet patient needs and minimize waste.
Supervises technicians to assure adequate inventory of medications is maintained.
Provides physicians/staff/patients with appropriate information concerning therapeutic actions, interactions, adverse effects, and formulary status of medications.� Offers patient counseling when dispensing outpatient medications.
Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) programs within the Pharmacy and assures technicians are completing assigned QA tasks by co-signing documents.
Assists with entering and dispensing investigational medications; assures appropriate supplies of investigational drugs are used and completes all required log sheets and documentation in an accurate manner.� Provides appropriate notification if investigational drug supplies need to be reordered.
Checks all floor stock medications including items to be refilled in Pyxis;� checks and dispenses controlled substance in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
Participates in continuing education programs and pharmacy related programs as required for license renewals and completes required training programs for job.
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharm D degree and Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Current registration in the state of Missouri as a Pharmacist; new graduates may fill this role subject to limitations mandated by the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy pending results of their initial licensing examination.
Working knowledge of current state and federal regulations affecting pharmacy practice and demonstrated ability to implement standards of accuracy and judgment.
Experience in IV admixture, cytotoxic drug handling, investigational drug handling procedures and retail pharmacy.
The hiring range for this position is $91,187 - $127,650 annually.
