The purpose of the PGY1 residency program at Summit Health is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is conducted by Summit Health and affiliated with the School of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
Residents will work closely with the healthcare team and patients in various settings to achieve optimal cost-effective care and safety for patients. The residency program will provide essential clinical tools for the pharmacist such as medication therapy management, counseling and teaching patients, medication reconciliation, and medication distribution.
