Established in 2000, the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is one of the oldest accredited residency programs of its kind in the nation. It has a proven track record of giving new pharmacists the tools they need to be leaders and innovators in community pharmacy practice.
Realo Discount Drug Stores Inc. consists of sixteen independent community pharmacies, a specialty pharmacy, a long-term care pharmacy, and seven durable medical equipment stores located throughout eastern North Carolina. Realo has been a well-recognized name in North Carolina pharmacy since 1982. With comprehensive patient care as its focus, Realo ventured beyond its community pharmacies and long-term care pharmacy in 2015. Realo Specialty Care was formed to further provide a patient-centered approach to patients with complex, chronic conditions. Realo Specialty Pharmacy aspires to be the paramount provider of specialty pharmacy medication in North Carolina and beyond by incorporating superior patient care and customer service. The exceptional Realo team strives to maximize therapeutic outcomes and patient experiences through personalized, innovative, and collaborative practices.
Realo Specialty Care is URAC accredited, and has agreements for provision of specialty pharmacy services with many insurance providers in the Southeast US. Realo Specialty Care accepts one community pharmacy resident per year. The resident will also spend time at three nearby Realo locations for the provision provide traditional pharmacy services, as well as to participate in innovative clinical services:
Medication therapy management
Adherence programs and packaging
Non-sterile compounding services
Home medical and respiratory equipment
Practice management, marketing, reimbursement strategies
Community outreach and education
Pharmacy ownership, new site marketing strategies, and market appraisals
Point of Care Testing
Precepting and mentoring pharmacy students
Veterinary pharmacy services
Extended Care pharmacy services, including chart reviews

When selecting your designations in PhORCAS, you may apply to any of our sites. You will be charged only one fee from PhORCAS, even if you apply to multiple sites within our program.
In addition to the standard information provided via PhORCAS, please be sure that your application includes:
A letter of intent specific to the site you are applying to (i.e. Moose Pharmacy, Walgreens Chapel Hill)
Three (3) references (each must complete the standard reference form; a separate letter of recommendation is not required)
A leadership statement answering the question, “What is your philosophy on leadership?” (limit 500 words)
