The UC Irvine Health Pharmacy Department offers a one-year specialty residency in Infectious Diseases.
The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at UC Irvine Health is designed to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in both clinical laboratory medicine and infectious diseases. The resident will work closely with the Adult Infectious Diseases Consult Service and other clinical services to care for patients with or at risk for infections to strengthen knowledge and skills in to order to deliver effective pharmacotherapy to manage patients with infectious diseases.
In addition, the resident will learn, establish and perform evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship strategies to ensure that patients receive the right antibiotic, at the right dose and for the right duration when they need them. The resident will participate in evaluating outcomes of stewardship efforts.
Pharmacists completing this residency may be eligible to become a board certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (BCIDP) and may effectively initiate and/or participate in antimicrobial stewardship efforts in acute care settings.
We are accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) as of 2017. The program code for UC Irvine Medical Center’s PYG2-ID program is 7452.
Applicants will be required to submit the following documents on the Pharmacy Online Residency centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) website by January 3, 2019.

Applicants for the UC Irvine Health PGY2-ID Pharmacy Residency Program must be participating in, or have completed, an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program or one in the ASHP accreditation process. Applicants must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation). Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of California.
Selection is based on professional competence, scholastic achievement, motivation, extracurricular activities, communication skills, letters of recommendation and overall understanding of the pharmacy profession.
