Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center is a 425 bed, Level II trauma center located in Lima, Ohio. As a part of Bon Secours Mercy Health, a Catholic healthcare system, our mission is to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities and brings good help to those in need, especially people who are poor, dying and underserved. The pharmacy department utilizes a layered learning model with pharmacy students from Ohio Northern University and The University of Findlay.
Pharmacists at St. Rita’s Medical Center collaborate closely with the healthcare team (physicians, nursing, case managers, social workers, etc) to ensure positive patient outcomes. Our pharmacists are extensively involved in expansion, implementation, and delivery of quality care to both inpatients and outpatients, offering services such as pharmacokinetic dosing and monitoring, anticoagulation and total parenteral nutrition ordering and monitoring, core measure compliance, antimicrobial stewardship, medication reconciliation, patient counseling and transitions of care. Pharmacists also participate in a variety of committees: P&T, Medication Safety, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Infection Control and Order Set Review, to name a few.
The medical center continually strives to ensure all residents of West Central Ohio have access to advanced medical technology and compassionate, quality care. The pharmacy department technology includes: Omnicell Robot Rx and Omnicell XT Automated Dispensing Cabinets, EPIC (electronic medical record) including prescriber order entry and barcoding, Alaris CareFusion smart pump technology and Lexi-Comp online drug information resource.
PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

All candidates must meet the following criteria:
Graduate of ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program
Ohio licensure within 90 days of residency start date
Successful completion of requirement employment, physician, drug/nicotine screen, and background check
Residency applicant qualifications will be evaluated by the residency program director (RPD) through an established, formal procedure that includes an assessment of the applicant’s ability to achieve the educational goals and learning objectives for training. Such procedure will include at least the following:
Submission of application materials through PhORCAS
Formal on – site interview
20 minute on-site presentation on a topic of applicant’s choice
Applicants will be reviewed and considered based on the following criteria:
Competence – based upon the candidate’s performance in advanced pharmacy practice rotations
Scholastic achievement – based upon the candidate’s college record
Verbal communication skills – assessed during interview process
Extracurricular activities – based upon leadership in organization, school functions, and community activities
Letters of recommendation
Enthusiasm, self – motivation, and self – confidence – based on the interview, and letters of recommendation
Perceived compatibility with the program’s goals and philosophy
