The PGY1 Pharmacy training at North Mississippi Medical Center provides the resident with the depth and breadth of skill of an experienced practitioner. Accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, this 12-month program offers post-graduate training that centers on the development of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to pursue rational drug therapy.
Residents of the programs are required to successfully complete rotations in subject areas deemed essential to the pharmacy practitioner. To tailor the residency experience to each resident, the program offers a broad range of elective rotations. During training segments, the resident works closely with one or more preceptors, who coordinate resident activities, monitor the resident’s performance and assist in the development, implementation and follow-up of the resident’s projects within the area.
In order to become a well-rounded pharmacist, additional learning experiences are incorporated throughout the 12-month position. The resident will develop and complete a pharmacy practice-related research project, develop oral and written communication skills, participate in departmental committees, and engage in preceptor development activities.
