Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital is an acute care, general and referral center. It offers a full range of adult & pediatric care for 644 beds. We are consistently recognized as a leader in health care quality, safety, and technology. The medical center’s size and scope offer numerous opportunities for learning.
Our PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is an accredited program designed to meet the requirements outlined by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Residents receive training and experience in clinical, administrative, and distributive pharmacy. Each resident completes a project related to pharmacy practice. Our affiliation with Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers numerous academic opportunities.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency offers the benefit of a unique training program. It takes advantage of a large medical center that provides complex specialty care and has a progressive pharmacy department. The wide variety of rotations and learning experiences within the acute care setting is a strength of our program. A required ambulatory care experience produces a well-rounded graduate. Everything you learn about pharmacy practice will be based in our patient-centered mission of providing compassionate care.
Staffing requirements provide hands-on experience which exposes residents to real-life clinical and operational situations. The residents will gain experience in weekend clinical services and core pharmacy services (order verification/IV room). This prepares graduates to be able to provide traditional and advanced pharmaceutical care services to a wide variety of patients in diverse practice settings.
You’ll Be Part of a Progressive Pharmacy Department
Our commitment to patient care has decentralized clinical pharmacists providing services to the entire hospital. The pharmacists are relied on as a valuable member of the care team. Pharmacists provide oversight and input in medication therapy by participating in multidisciplinary rounds, profile review and intervention, dosing protocols, drug information, management of emergency situations, hospital & medical staff education, committee participation, protocol development, and medication utilization evaluation. These longstanding practices have resulted in excellent relationships with our medical and nursing staffs.
The clinical pharmacy services provide the basis for the wide variety of rotations. Under the direct supervision of their pharmacist preceptor, residents are actively engaged in each aspect of the care carried out by the pharmacy team.
