The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is built on a tradition of excellence in pharmacy services. Providence pharmacy departments in Oregon are leaders in the implementation of progressive pharmacy services.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program has been accredited by ASHP since 1994, offering residents the opportunity to participate in collaborative, integrated care in health system pharmacy practice. Residents apply advanced practice-based skills, expand leadership skills, participate in professional organizations, and participate in innovative approaches to delivery of care.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is one program with two sites: Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Both Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center have implemented a layered learning model, with pharmacy student/resident/attending pharmacist teams on each of the core clinical services, modeled after the medical education model. The teams work collaboratively with health care practitioners to provide patient care and improve medication management across transitions in care.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program offers 15 resident positions. Each of our larger tertiary care (500-bed) medical centers serves as home base for eight pharmacy residents. The eighth resident at Providence Portland Medical Center is reserved for the PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Administration resident, whose PGY1 year is identical to the PGY1 Pharmacy residency, with the addition of MBA coursework.
Eligibility for Oregon pharmacist licensure required. Application through PhORCAS must include letter of intent, college transcripts, curriculum vitae, and three completed recommendation forms within PhORCAS from references. Please encourage references to provide detailed comments on the recommendation form. Please note: There are two large medical centers (~500 beds) that serve as primary sites for the residency program. Applicants must apply to either Providence Portland Medical Center (NMS 158213) or Providence St Vincent Medical Center (NMS 158221) or apply to both sites separately through the National Matching Service.
