UNC REX PGY2 Cardiology
PurposePostgraduate year 2 pharmacy residency program in Cardiology at UNC REX will build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. The resident accepted to the UNC REX PGY2 program in Cardiology will have opportunities to practice independently by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. After successful completion of the PGY2 pharmacy residency at UNCREX the resident will be prepared for a specialty position in advanced patient care in Cardiology, appointment to the academic institution in a non-tenure track, and sit in on the board certification for advanced practice in cardiology. There is 1 PGY2 in Cardiology position available. The program start date is July 1, 2019. The PGY2 resident in Cardiology at UNC REX will provide cardiovascular pharmacy services within inpatient critical care, intermediate care, and procedural patient care areas. In the outpatient setting the PGY2 resident in Cardiology will work within the Clinical Pharmacist Practioner model by providing daily service in the areas of cardiovascular PGY2 Program DesignRequired Rotations: (9 months)

Leadership: The resident will select and lead initiatives for cardiovascular services at UNCREX, be involved in quality assurance and education of pharmacy department, participate and present at the cardiovascular service line meetings Meetings: The resident in PGY2 Cardiology will attend local pharmacy meetings (NCAP), health system meetings as well as 2 national meetings, including ASHP Midyear and either ACC, ACCP, HFSA, or SCCM meeting. The resident may participate in recruiting events for PGY1 and PGY2 residencies and attend residency showcases as needed. BenefitsLeave AvailabilityThe resident earns Paid Time Off (PTO) at the same rate as a new co-worker. PTO is earned every two weeks, coinciding with pay periods. If time off from the residency is taken for any reason except funeral leave, (holiday, vacation, absence), PTO will be used. The resident may be granted up to 10 days of education leave for the ASHP Midyear Meeting as well as another national meeting in Cardiology specialty.
