We are currently recruiting one position for this residency program. This residency program is very well established and one of the first of its kind, having trained future oncology pharmacists since 1984. The program is designed to provide a training opportunity for individuals interested in developing clinical competency in the areas of oncology and hematology pharmacotherapeutics. The program incorporates both inpatient and outpatient rotations devoted to the development of skills essential for the delivery of pharmaceutical care of cancer patients and their complex patient care management. This program prepares successful graduates for board certification in oncology pharmacy.
The PGY2 academic year focuses on the core learning experiences to include bone marrow transplant, acute hematology and medical oncology consults, chemotherapy infusion clinic, breast cancer clinic, hazardous drug compounding, longitudinal hem and solid tumor rotations. Additional training opportunities include the design and implementation of appropriate therapeutic regimens and application of pharmacokinetic principles to individualize cancer therapy. The curriculum also includes extensive training on achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes and providing disease and drug specific information to all members of the integrated cancer care team. Elective opportunities are numerous in both ambulatory and acute settings and include research, phase I clinical trials, gynecologic cancers, informatics, palliative care, pediatrics, infectious disease and pharmaco-economics. The required independent residency project is tailored to the resident’s professional interests and centers on the care of veterans with cancer.
