The Children's National Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program provides learning experiences centered on patient care and practice management that will enable residency graduates to pursue advanced clinical pharmacist and clinical specialist positions in pediatrics after completion of the program. The residency program will also provide teaching opportunities that will develop pedagogical skills in the context of adjunct faculty appointment with affiliated pharmacy schools. An optional teaching certificate program will be available through the Washington Metropolitan Society of Health-System Pharmacists regional resident program (this will be required for residents who have not previously completed one). The Division of Pharmacy is affiliated with Howard University School of Pharmacy, University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University and Shenandoah University as well as other pharmacy schools around the country.
Over 100 pharmacists have completed a residency at Children’s National since the start of the program in 1980. Children’s National is a participating member of the ASHP Residency Matching Program. The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency has been accredited since 2012 with four positions available.
Of note: one of the four positions is specifically allocated for an emphasis in critical care (separate NMS code).

The department provides the following comprehensive services: -Intravenous and parenteral nutrition admixtures -Extensive product formulation and compounding The Pharmacy utilizes the latest in technology to assist with dispensing. -Medi-Dose®, makes standardized labels for unit dosing bulk medications -ABACUS®, TPN physician order entry system that eliminates paper orders for TPNs -Pyxis®, automated dispensing cabinets to assist with the inventory and storage of medications. These machines are located on every unit in the hospital as well as the OR and the regional outpatient centers. -DoseEdge® is utilized to capture pictures of the preparation process of IVs and orals within our institution.
