The PGY-1 residency program at Blessing Hospital exposes the resident to a community hospital setting preparing for a future prominent role in patient care or further training with a PGY-2 residency. The program will be tailored to the resident's areas of interest with flexible rotation schedules.
Core rotations include critical care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, family practice, practice management, and antimicrobial stewardship. Any required rotation may be repeated and electives include oncology, psychiatry, and informatics/medication safety.
The resident will obtain a teaching certificate through Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville School of Pharmacy and be able to precept pharmacy students. Paid registration for the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists Antimicrobial Stewardship Certification Program will be provided as well. The resident will attend the ASHP Midyear meeting and complete a major project to be presented at the Great Lakes Residency Conference.
Special Requirements for Acceptance
Graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy or equivalent, eligibility for licensure in Illinois, official college of pharmacy transcript, curriculum vitae, letter of intent, and three letters of recommendation. Applicants must apply through PhORCAS.

Extensive pharmaceutical services are offered including pharmacokinetics consults and monitoring, discharge counseling, antimicrobial stewardship activities, multidisciplinary rounding, teaching services with Southern Illinois University Family Medicine Residency Program, hospital committee involvement and more.
