PGY2 residents longitudinally manage complex patients within a rural ambulatory care practice. Residents develop advanced skill in the management of hyperlipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, tobacco cessation, chronic pain, congestive heart failure, anticoagulation and mental health. The primary clinical site is Grand Island, however residents complete rotations at additional sites within the integrated healthcare system (Omaha, Lincoln and outreach clinics). Elective opportunities include: cardiology, endocrinology, management, academic detailing, informatics, pharmacoeconomics and home- based primary care. PGY2 residents precept both APPE students and PGY1 residents. Travel/education assistance provided to attend ASHP Midyear and regional residency conference, as available.
Residents will additionally rotate through a satellite clinic in rural Nebraska. In this unique environment, the pharmacists manages a variety of disease states, in addition to regulatory compliance, access to meds in the community, etc. Residents will also rotate through the Pain/Whole Health and Mental Health clinics at the Omaha VA to gain unique experiences in specialty disease state management. Residents may choose from a variety of electives offered at the Grand Island or other campuses (outlined above). For off-site rotations, housing will be provided.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
Eligible for pharmacy licensure in any of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia
Graduate of ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program
Letter of intent, CV, academic transcripts, and three completed ASHP residency applicant recommendation request forms. Request that references complete and answer all narrative comment questions (1-4) in their entirety on the Standardized Reference form available in PhORCAS.
