The PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is one of ten residency programs that add to the legacy and tradition of excellence in the field of pharmacy education at the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This psychiatric pharmacy residency has been developed with a unique focus in academia alongside psychiatric medicine. The practice site rotations will be completed at the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and through Vanderbilt Behavioral Health (at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The goal of the PGY2 Residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice will be to offer training and education for pharmacists and prepare them to become clinical practitioners and leaders in this field. The residents will develop competencies and skills in the areas of psychiatric medicine and academia, while applying psychiatric pharmacy principles and best practices. They will also gain experience in the areas such as geriatric psychiatry, dual diagnosis, child/adolescent psychiatry, mood disorder, psychosis, project management, as well as staffing.
We offer an emphasis in academia with the resident having an opportunity to teach in a variety of settings including classroom, lab and small group teaching as well as precept students during the rotations. We offer a teaching and learning certificate to coincide with the precepting and teaching experience.
The residency lasts for one year and is composed six longitudinal rotations and nine 4-8 week clinical rotations (six required and three electives) , which are completed from July to June. The deadline for applications to the program is the first Friday in January of each year. The candidate should submit the application and associated materials in the PhORCAS system.
